Directed and edited by Anthony O’Connor “The Red Thread” is a moving-image work commissioned by Kerry Guinan. Shown in the complex as part of The Red Thread (2023) exhibition, The film articulates and critically analyses the internal labour processes and dynamics which constituted the making of The Red Thread. The film explores the networked technologies and operational images upon which this dynamic international artwork relied. The film explores the material and social relations contained within the collaboration between two teams one based in Dublin Ireland, the other in Bangalore, India. This moving image work is weaving of observational documentary, interviews with participants and moving image material from the internal archive of the project such as zoom meeting recordings and videos sent through whatsapp. The film was translated into Kannada and later screened in Bangalore to the factory workers and the local art community. This film is a testament to the role of moving image practice to simultaneously critically analyse complex social systems while being a generative site of contextual reference. Shown in The Complex, Dublin (2022), Pallas Projects (2022), Douglas Hyde (2023), Maraa, Bangalore India (2013) Ormston House (2025), Royal Institute of Art Stockholm (2025)
